Surkhandarya region is located in the south of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It borders with Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. The region's territory is 20 thousand square kilometers. The region includes 13 districts and the administrative center is the city of Termez. The population of the region is more than 2.5 million people.

The region has a developed transport infrastructure, including international highways connecting the CIS countries, a railway, an international airport, and modern logistics centers. The basis of the economy is agriculture, industry, construction and trade. The agricultural sector is key for the Surkhandarya region. The main directions in agricultural production are the cultivation of raw cotton, grain crops, fruits and vegetables, as well as the production of livestock products. Horticulture and viticulture are developed in the mountainous areas of the region. In the region, fruits and berries ripen almost all year round. In 2018, about a million tons of vegetables and more than 400 thousand tons of fruits were collected in the region. Farmers' products (food and cotton fiber) are the main export goods.

The industrial sector is dominated by enterprises in the light, food, flour-grinding and construction industries. The region pays great attention to the creation of new production facilities using modern technologies for the production of export-oriented and import-substituting products. In particular, work is currently underway to implement 671 projects with a total value of more than a billion dollars. The share of foreign direct investment is 13 percent. New production should create an additional 16 thousand jobs.

Surkhandarya region has great investment potential. Promising areas for investment are the light, electrical and pharmaceutical industries, processing of agricultural products, production of construction and leather and footwear products.
In addition, more than 300 deposits, manifestations and outcrops of more than 40 types of minerals have been identified in the region. The subsoil of the Surkhandarya region has industrial reserves of coal, oil, natural gas, phosphorites, gypsum, marble, granite, non-ferrous metals, etc.

Foreign and joint ventures operate successfully in the region. Partnerships have been established with Russia, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, South Korea, China, Indonesia, India and other countries. With the participation of Russian capital, 97 companies in various fields of production have been created in the Surkhandarya region.
